31/03/10 Just a cartoon kid
Just drew a simple cartoon kid for today. I’m exploring various styles and playing with the different tools in Painter. It’s been a really busy week so I haven’t had much time to draw. Hopefully things will slow down soon….

29/03/10 60-Second Sketch: Fat kid with cow balloon
Just another 60-second sketch for today (not counting the coloring time). Just a fat kid and his cow balloon. Not sure why he has a cow balloon exactly. Maybe he’s at some Cow Festival or something….

28/03/10 Build great Intellectual Properties and They will come!
(or…) Question of the Month: part 5 (the final decision) Okay, if you’ve been following along then you know that I’ve been painstakingly researching the art and entertainment industries. I’ve been trying to determine what area(s) I want to invest myself in; what industry sector(s) should I create stuff for? And trying to determine the [...]

27/03/10 The worrisome King Hobart
I’m still immersed in thoughts and research on the entertainment industry, trying to come to a final decision on my “Question of the Month.” So, for today I’m just posting this 60-second sketch. Meet the ever-nervous and worrisome, King Hobart: That’s all for today! Perhaps I’ll color this one in some day….

26/03/10 Yes! Some answers! (Thank you Tad Stones)
In my search for more information on the art and business of entertainment–selling animated shows in particular–I found an excellent source of information and inspiration. Tad Stones, a successful dude in the animation industry, has been thoughtful enough to share some insight into the world of animation. In particular, how to pitch an animated series. [...]

25/03/10 My head hurts….
I’ve spent a ton of time lately on the internet, trying to learn everything I can about the entertainment industry. “Googling” everything I can think of: How do you publish a book? How do you make an animated cartoon? How often are graphic novels turned into movies? How hard is it to make a living [...]

24/03/10 Mokka! Mokka! Mokka!
I love this crazy little character! I call him “Mokka.” Know idea why though…. Drew this one entirely with the Wacom tablet. Then experimented with the coloring using a “tint” tool in Corel Painter.

23/03/10 Angry Snail! Annnggrrryy! Rrr.
Not much to say about this one. Just one really grouchy snail! Experimenting with different media in Corel Painter…. This picture started out with some random smudges and scribbles. Somehow it transformed into a snail. Although, not a very nice looking one. I had 2 different posts for today, but I let my youngest son [...]

22/03/10 Another abstract sketch
Always a good way to loosen up before drawing. Sketching abstract designs. Or just to do something while you’re thinking. Nothing big today. I’m doing a lot of thinking and I tend to scribble when I’m thinking….

21/03/10 Olo says hello – new practice animation
I’ve been playing around with Toon Boom Studio lately. It’s really cool! Here’s my latest animated doodle. My youngest son did the voice, which I modified on the computer to sound higher pitched. I need better sound equipment for sure.

20/03/10 Question of the Month: part 4 (the final 3)
Well, if you’ve been following along on my “Question of the Month” posts, then you know I’ve been trying to make a tough decision: what areas of “Art or Entertainment” do I invest my time and energy into? Now I think I’ve boiled it down to 3 specific areas: children’s books, graphic novels, or animated [...]

19/03/10 “Comic book” style art
I’ve been toying with the idea of creating a graphic novel for a while now. I’ve always loved comic books and graphic novels, and I think I could create something really cool. So, today I thought I would take some time and sketch out a comic-book-style scene. Maybe something from a James Bond type of [...]
