Monthly Archives: February 2010

I’m feeling a little lost and confused today. I’ve been drawing and reading and learning a lot this month, but I need more direction. I need specific projects to accomplish. I need more focus. I think my original goal is too general. Time to narrow things down a bit. I’ve got a lot of thinking [...]

I had so much fun making the first T-shirt design for the EatSleepDraw/Tuneage contest, I thought I’d make another! What do you think?

Mmmm… Coffee = creative fuel! Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®

Trying my hand at drawing hands again.  (haha! Get it? Okay… lame joke. Sorry)  I’ve been trying to improve my figure drawing by focusing more on specific parts of the body now.  Hands for me are definitely the hardest to draw. I need lots more practice drawing hands. They’re just so awkward to draw!  Or [...]

You may have already read about it on my Tumblr Log, but EatSleepDraw and Tuneage are holding a cool T-Shirt design contest!  The theme is “Vintage Music” and one winner will be selected in March.  The winner gets cool stuff and still retains all the rights to their artwork.  Meaning you can still re-use the [...]

Continuing to practice my figure drawing.  Here’s a quick sketch of a “warrior-type dude.” I love fantasy-type characters and art.  This is a really rough sketch, but I plan on making some nice, polished characters in the future.  Still getting the hang of proportions and “movement” in drawing people right now.

The title pretty much says it all!  A ferocious roaring tiger of death. Ha ha ha!! I love this one for some reason. Hand drawn, then scanned.  Darkened the lines, and colored in Corel Painter with oil pastels. I think I may have to do more subjects that involve ferocious roaring beasts in the future.

Trying to draw a real-life subject.  One that doesn’t move.  A sleeping baby named Joshua. Once again though, the fine lines get lost in the scan….

This is definitely my favorite drawing to date!! He’s scruffy, stout, and generally friendly.  Make him mad though and you’ll regret it! Sort of like a monster.  Sort of like a dog.  I call him “Mog.” P.S.- Not sure what the little green bug is though.  That just made it’s way in the picture somehow.

After dragging myself out of bed and downing a cup of coffee, the majority of my morning has been spent learning how to use the new Wacom tablet. I was lucky enough to be able to get the Intuos4, so it has a lot of cool customization options. Custom buttons, a custom scroll wheel (kind [...]

This drawing is definitely inspired by my love of comics and video games.  I drew it with regular pencil and paper, then scanned.  I’m just learning how to use Corel Painter so my coloring isn’t the greatest.  Something I’m working on…. What do you think?  Comments welcome

This afternoon I dabbled with my Painter program.  Man, there are a TON of cool brushes and tools!  I did some scribbles and experimenting with a whole bunch of them, yet there’s still so much more!  This weekend I’ll have to get into the manual and learn the details.  Feels like I can create anything [...]

For drawing practice, I often look up random stuff online or find something in a magazine I feel like free-handing.  This one is my version of a NyQuil ad.  I think it’s kinda funny.  My daughter thinks it’s scary!  What do you think?

Here are a few drawings from a the short time I considered being a tattoo artist.  Decided it wasn’t for me though, and moved on to other things.  Good practice though, and I learned more about symbolism in art. Most of the tattoo-like drawings I did were just a traditional style.  I used mostly subjects [...]
